Scoring & Grading

UPG (University Predicted Grade)

Abbreviation: UPG

Composite UPCAT admission score: 60% UPCAT + 40% high school grades.

UPG (University Predicted Grade) is the composite score used by UP for UPCAT admission decisions. Computed as:

UPG = (UPCAT score × 0.60) + (HS Weighted Average × 0.40)

Lower UPG = better (UP uses a 1.0-5.0 scale where 1.0 is highest).

Cutoff ranges (recent years, varies by campus and programme):

  • UP Diliman: typically 2.0-2.5
  • UP Manila: 2.0-2.5
  • UP Los Baños: 2.2-2.7
  • UP Visayas/Mindanao/Open: 2.3-2.9

What it means for you:

  • Strong HS grades + average UPCAT can outperform average HS + great UPCAT
  • Don't neglect either component
  • Specific programmes have additional requirements (interviews for Music, Fine Arts, etc.)
  • Verify your campus + programme cutoff before banking on admission

Frequently asked questions

How is the UPG computed?
The University Predicted Grade combines your UPCAT score (60%) and your high school weighted average (40%). UP uses a 1.0–5.0 scale where a lower UPG is better.
What UPG do you need to pass the UPCAT?
Cutoffs vary by campus and program — recent UP Diliman and UP Manila cutoffs run roughly 2.0–2.5, with other campuses slightly higher. Always verify your specific campus and program cutoff.
