When STEM fits
- College + university plans clear
- Family can support 4+ years post-SHS
- Career requires degree (engineering, medicine, sciences)
- Long-term earning potential prioritised
When TVL fits
- Need immediate income post-SHS
- Practical skills work appeals
- Family financial constraints
- Specific TVL specialty matches your interests
- College not feasible immediately
Common TVL paths
- Cookery / Food & Beverage: Restaurants, hotels, OFW (cruise, Middle East)
- ICT: BPO entry, technical support, web development
- Welding / Auto Mechanics: Manufacturing, automotive, OFW (Middle East construction)
- Beauty Care: Salons, freelance services
- Caregiving: Healthcare support, OFW (overseas caregiver)
TVL ≠ no college possible
Many TVL graduates eventually pursue college:
- Work first → save → enroll later
- Some universities accept TVL with bridging
- TESDA certifications carry into college credit
TVL has strong OFW pathway
TESDA NC II in cookery, welding, caregiving, etc. is highly portable. Many OFWs from TVL backgrounds.
