Key insight: passing LET grants automatic CSC eligibility

Under RA 1080, passing any PRC board exam (including LET) automatically grants CSC eligibility. So:

  • Pass LET → automatically CSC eligible
  • You don't need to take CSE Pro separately if LET passed
  • Apply for "RA 1080 Eligibility Certificate" from CSC

When you'd still take CSE Pro

  • You're NOT pursuing teaching career (other government work)
  • You want eligibility BEFORE finishing teaching degree
  • Specific role requires CSE Pro (not RA 1080)

When LET is sufficient

For most teachers:

  • LET certifies you to teach (private + DepEd)
  • LET passage automatically gives RA 1080 CSC eligibility
  • CSE Pro adds no additional capability for teaching
  • Save time + money — don't take both unless needed

Common mistakes

  • Taking CSE Pro after passing LET (unnecessary duplication)
  • Not knowing about RA 1080 (then taking CSE Pro)
  • Confusing LET (teaching) with CSE (general government)

Frequently asked questions

Do teachers need the Civil Service Exam if they passed the LET?
No. Under RA 1080, passing the LET automatically grants CSC Professional eligibility — so a licensed teacher does not need to take the Civil Service Exam separately. You can apply for an RA 1080 Certificate of Eligibility at the CSC.
What is the difference between the LET and the CSE Professional?
The LET (administered by the PRC) licenses you to teach; the CSE Professional (administered by the CSC) qualifies you for general government positions. The LET passes at a 75% weighted average, the CSE at an 80% rating.
