Choose IELTS if

  • Migrating to UK, Australia, NZ, or Canada
  • Nursing licensure abroad (most boards prefer IELTS)
  • You prefer face-to-face speaking
  • You're targeting UK universities

Choose TOEFL if

  • US university admission
  • You prefer computer-based testing
  • You speak more naturally to a recording than a person
  • The school you're applying to specifically requires TOEFL

Take both?

Rarely necessary. Most institutions accept either. Pick based on destination + which test format suits your strengths.

Common pitfalls

  • Booking too late (test slots fill in PHL)
  • Insufficient prep on writing (often the lowest score for Filipinos)
  • Speaking nerves (practice with timed recording for TOEFL)
